2016 Sancerre Skeveldra
The Riffault family have been making Sancerre for generations. When Sebastien took over the family vineyards in 2000 he started converting everything to biodynamic viticulture. He forgoes the use of machinery, and plows between the vines with horses.
A lot of love and dedication go into these wines, and it shows. Consistently some of the most layered and complex expressions of Sancerre we have seen. This is Sauvignon Blanc from a 1ha parcel in St. Satur. The vines are 50 years old on average and grown on soils with a high content of silex. 50% of the grapes are purposely affected by botrytis. The wine is aged for two years in tank then a further year in old wood. No fining, filtering, no SO2.
